Recent transformation of India – Japan relations

Mr. Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan undertook an official visit to India on September 13-14, 2017 during which he held the 12th India-Japan Annual Summit with his Indian counterpart in Ahmedabad - Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

This was the fourth Annual Summit between Prime Minister Mr. Modi and Prime Minister Mr. Abe. The two leaders reviewed the recent progress in the multifaceted cooperation between India and Japan under the framework of their 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership' and set its future direction.

Potential questions for the Main Examination
1. India-Japan ties have transformed in the past three years from being friendly and mutually cooperative to deeply strategic relations. Substantiate.

2. For Japan to conclude a Civil Nuclear agreement with India required greater political capital than the US had to deploy to make the Indo-US nuclear deal possible. Explain the statement in the light of recently concluded India – Japan Nuclear Deal.
